Study Tips

  1. Focus on the first 10 days of the month. They are almost all irregular: tsuitachi, futsuka, mikka, and more.
  2. Remember that 4, 7, and 9 often have special readings in dates: shigatsu, shichigatsu, and kugatsu.
  3. The 20th of the month is always "hatsuka", not "nijunichi".
  4. Say the full date out loud as you type to reinforce your memory.
  5. Japanese eras are common in official documents. For the first year of an era, "gannen" is used instead of "ichinen".
